Woman calls for greater recognition of PMDD after 20-year battle

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder wasn't officially recognised as a mental health disorder until 2013.

A woman who was left in the dark around her mental illness for over 20 years says she wants to see more recognition of her condition.

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder – or PMDD – wasn’t officially recognised as a mental health disorder until 2013.

But it can affect around one in 20 women.

Researchers say they’d like to see it more widely acknowledged in Government health strategies.
