William MacDowell sentenced to life for MacRae murders

Renee and toddler Andrew disappeared in 1976. Today, William MacDowell, who was the child's father, was found guilty of the killings

One of Scotland’s longest running murder cases – that of Renee MacRae and her son Andrew – has ended with the conviction of her lover more than forty-five years later.

The judge described the premeditated murders as “an execution”. MacDowell, who is 80, will die in jail after being given a life sentence.

The police have urged him to disclose what he did with his victims’ bodies.
