An epidemiologist says a rise in Covid-19 cases could become a problem in the winter, if numbers don’t go down.
In the two weeks to last Sunday acute hospital admissions rose by a quarter, at a time when routine testing in hospitals and care homes is being scaled back.
Scientists are also monitoring new variants of the virus, in particular one which is dominant in parts of Asia.
