A financial expert has warned that fire insurance for businesses could be rendered invalid if there are gaps in the local fire service.
His comment follows the revelation that on several occasions this year no retained fire crews were available in parts of the Highlands due to understaffing.
The region’s new fire chief has questioned the data, and has offered an assurance that a major recruitment drive is underway.
