Warning of further disruption as temperatures remain low

Tonight could see the coldest January temperature for 14 years

It’s been the coldest night of the winter so far.

As temperatures plunged to as low as minus 14 at Dalwhinnie in the Highlands, an amber alert for snow is now in place for parts of the country.

Thousands of school pupils were given the day off as around 200 schools and nurseries were closed.

Drivers have been warned of further disruption on the roads.
