Warning issued amid shortage of donor organs despite opt-out system

It has been 30 years since the organ donation register was started.

A warning has been issued as Scotland faces a shortage of donor organs.

The number of people joining the donor register has been decreasing in the last few years, but the number of patients waiting for donations is growing.

Although the opt-out system means it’s assumed everyone has given their permission to donate, that can still be over-ruled by their loved ones.

People are being urged to actively register so their wishes are made clear, and more lives can be saved.
