Violent clashes as fireworks and petrol bombs thrown at police

It's reignited the debate over whether fireworks should be sold to the public

It’s been called a night of “unprecedented violence” against Scotland’s emergency services. In Edinburgh, police officers were attacked with fireworks and petrol bombs.

Fire crews from Bathgate were chased from the scene of a 999 call before rocks were thrown at their engine.

And in Glasgow, a group of twenty youths fought and threw fireworks at each other.

Across the country eight police officers were injured. So far two arrests have been made. Efforts continue to identify everyone responsible.
