Violence against teachers in Scotland hits five year high

The Scottish Government is to host an emergency summit on school violence i

Spitting. Kicking. Biting. Pushed down stairs. These aren’t one-off incidents. These are regular experiences for teachers in Scotland’s classrooms.

With the number of reported incidents at its highest for five years, it is hoped the summit will help clamp down on classroom disruption.

Opposition MSPs urged the Education Secretary Jenny Gilruth to convene the summit within days to tackle what they say is now an “endemic crisis in our schools.” Teaching Unions say it’s long overdue and the voices of teachers must be listened to.
