Social care providers are warning the growing and excessive use of expensive agency staff is crippling the sector — and will put care homes out of business.

One home says it’s paying an agency nine thousands pounds a week just for one nurse, in a desperate bid to fill shifts.

Scottish care say the explosion in the use of agency staff is more prevalent in social care than the NHS, as ninety percent of their members have vacancies and are are struggling to recruit.
