Universities see a jump in students from diverse backgrounds

Just released statistics from UCAS show the new trends

A record number of students from disadvantaged backgrounds are set to go to university this year.

Data from the admissions service UCAS shows application rates for 18 year olds from socially deprived areas in Scotland were up by more than 20 per cent.

Figures also show a rise in applications from international pupils, as student representatives say everyone is welcome regardless of their background.
