Ukrainian refugees start celebrating Christmas on the 25th

Camouflage and crackers are part of the festive season this year for some who have a new home in Scotland

Ukrainians living in Scotland have been speaking of their hopes for peace as they prepare for another festive season separated from loved ones.

This year Ukraine will celebrate Christmas according to the Western calendar for the first time, distancing itself from the Russian date of the 7th of January.

Those who have been rehomed in Glasgow and Edinburgh say while the communities they’ve created here provide safety and support, their thoughts are never far from those they have left behind.
