UK intelligence may have led to Indian detention of Dumbarton man

Jagtar Singh Johal has been held in India since 2017, with accusations of mistreatment and torture

UK intelligence agencies are being accused of providing a tip-off that led to the detention and torture of a man from Dumbarton.

Jagtar Singh Johal’s family say he was abducted by plain clothes police officers and bundled into the back of an unmarked car, weeks after his wedding in Punjab almost five years ago.

Human rights organisation, Reprieve, says MI5 and MI6 may have contributed to his detention and torture by sharing intelligence with Indian authorities.
