Scotland’s whisky industry is paying a royal salute to King Charles after President Trump gave him the credit for lifting the 10% import tariff on Scotch whisky.
Trump said he was making the move in honour of the King and Queen, who had just completed their state visit.
The US is the single biggest market for Scotland’s national drink, with recent extra taxes on exports from the UK to the US hitting malt whisky hardest, costing the industry £4 million a week.
Scottish whisky producers are welcoming the decision, which will save the industry millions and ultimately attract more investment and create more jobs.
