The First Minister has laid out her plans for an independence referendum. The date is set for October 19 next year. Now her task is to prove that it will be a legal poll.
Nicola Sturgeon wants the Supreme Court to rule on the legality of the referendum, and this afternoon, the Lord Advocate – the Scottish government’s chief legal officer – referred the matter there. Whatever the result, the First minister says the people of Scotland will have a say.
