The company responsible for procuring ferries for Calmac has blamed Scottish Government ministers for the ‘catastrophic failure’ to build two new ferries.

Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited say they were extremely uncomfortable about awarding the contract to Ferguson Marine, but were essentially overruled.

The two ships are now five years overdue and more than two and a half times over budget, which C-MAL blames on the shipbuilder for wasting money. Caroline Lewis reports.
