Another blow to bills. Rents are predicted to skyrocket, as legal protections for tenants come to an end.
Key Scottish Government legislation, which was brought in to help with the cost of living, allowed tenants to challenge increases in rent and had them capped at a maximum increase of twelve per cent.
But now, huge hikes could be on the horizon. Rents can be set at the open market value – meaning landlords have more power to set the price they want.
One woman has told STV News her rent has jumped from £638 to more than £900.
