Teachers quit profession amid rising classroom violence and workloads

Members of the EIS and the NASUWT unions are voting over whether to take industrial action.

‘I’ve been sworn at and physically kicked.’

The words of a teacher who’s told STV News many others are leaving the profession or off sick as they face increasing violence in the classroom and an unsustainable workload.

On Friday, results of a strike ballot by Scotland’s largest teaching union, EIS, are expected over teachers’ workload.

The NASUWT union held a similar ballot, but said it did not meet the threshold to take action.
