The First Minister is being urged to take a tougher approach to youth violence following the death of a 16-year old schoolboy in an incident at the weekend.
The Scottish Conservatives have accused the SNP of systematically weakening the justice system, while Labour said it had cut police numbers.
John Swinney insisted his government remains focused on prevention and early intervention.
