The former Education Secretary John Swinney has defended the decisions around the closure of Scotland’s schools during the first coronavirus lockdown – despite criticism over the length of time pupils were out of the classroom.
Giving evidence to the UK Covid inquiry, sitting here in Edinburgh, he said that at the time he didn’t have the evidence in front of him to support re-opening schools earlier.
