Swinney accuses Westminster of £200m public services funding gap

The chancellor announced employer national insurance contributions will go up last month as part of the Autumn Budget.

The First Minister is accusing the UK Government of leaving Scotland’s public services with a £200m funding gap due to the increase in National Insurance.

The chancellor announced that employer contributions would rise last month as part of the new Labour government’s first Autumn Budget.

The Scottish Government called for £500m to cover the impact, however, it has emerged the Treasury will provide around £300m.
