Supreme Court rules definition of a woman based on biological sex

The court stressed that the trans community still has protections against discrimination.

The debate around what defines a woman in the eyes of the law has been one of the most controversial in recent years.

Today, the UK’s Supreme Court provided its answer.

Judges backed the campaign group For Women Scotland, which has argued that the legal definition is based on biological sex and not trans people with a gender-recognition certificate.

However, they added that the decision should not be seen as a victory for one side or the other.
