Successful trial could be ‘transformative’ in detecting cancer

The trial has been so successful in NHS Lothian that it's now being rolled out across Scotland

A medical research study involving cancer patients could be “transformative” in future treatments, experts say.

The University of Edinburgh is using a pioneering technique to analyse DNA from blood samples, and monitor whether the illness has returned before any symptoms appear.

That has already led to life-saving early interventions. And it fuels hopes that a simple blood test could be used to trace cancer, instead of imaging scans.
