Sturgeon apologises for historical forces adoptions

In one of her final acts as First Minister, she condemned a practice common until the 1970s

Nicola Sturgeon has issued a “sincere, heartfelt and unreserved” apology to all those affected by historic forced adoption.

Thousands of women were “forced or coerced” into adoption by charities, churches and health professionals.

Campaigners hope this will be the start of healing for both mothers and adoptees.
