Strikes suspended across Scotland after fresh pay offer

The £700 million deal calls a halt to walk outs by waste workers, and ends the threat of school closures next week.

The talks have gone on for months – in recent days lasting into the night. This evening a breakthrough. Strikes due to take place across Scotland next week have been suspended after a fresh pay offer was put forward.

It’s a victory for unions who banded together to push for a better pay offer for thousands of council staff up and down the country, pushing the original offer of 2% up to 10% for some.
