Stores provided with radios as part of shoplifting crackdown

Experts say more needs to be done to tackle retail theft Edinburgh-wide.

Efforts are under way to curb shoplifting across Edinburgh’s city centre through the relaunch of a communication initiative.

More than 50 retailers have been provided with radios that can be used to alert nearby shops of criminal activity, as well as notifying police officers and the council’s CCTV team to help track suspects.

While it’s hoped the scheme will act as a deterrent, experts say more needs to be done to tackle retail theft city-wide.
