Starmer says no to new oil fields if he becomes PM

Both the industry body and local business groups have now invited him to come to the North East

Politicians have been warned that ‘words have consequences’ after the Labour leader said there would be no investment in new oil fields under his government.

Sir Keir Starmer made the remarks at the World Economic Forum.

He said that while the oil sector would play a role in transitioning to cleaner energy, it would be wrong to invest in new fields.
