It’s thought to have been the largest mass stranding in nearly 100 years, 77 pilot whales died after washing ashore on the island of Sanday in Orkney earlier this month.
Now, specialists are working to determine the cause of the stranding which led to the pods deaths.
Rebecca von Hellfeld, a marine biologist from the University of Aberdeen, took part in the operation and spoke with STV News about the possible reasons for the stranding.
