Shops turning to facial recognition in bid to tackle shoplifting

There’s been a 16% rise in shoplifting in the past year and many shops and businesses across Scotland are now using new CCTV technology to try to catch and deter the thieves in real time.

The police are also considering using a similar system which uses facial recognition to spot criminals.

But, those campaigning against that say the system could worsen racial profiling and raises huge “big brother” privacy concerns.
