Scottish whisky industry hit with 10% distillers tax rise

Under new taxation, the rate on spirits will rise to £31.64 per litre of pure alcohol

The Scottish whisky industry says it’s been dealt an ‘historic blow’ as it faces the largest tax hikes in years.

The Scotch Whisky Association says one of Scotland’s largest industries is already under pressure as they grapple with the soaring cost of energy.

First Minister Humza Yousaf has asked the Prime Minister to treat the industry ‘fairly’ after it was announced tax on distillers would increase by 10% from August.
