The First Minister has blasted the UK Government plans to block Holyrood’s Gender recognition reform bill as a “outrageous and an outright attack” on the Scottish Parliament.
For the first time in the history of devolution, a Section 35 order is being used to stop the bill, which aims to make it easier for trans people to change their legal gender, from being approved by the King.
Scottish Secretary Alister Jack told the Commons the decision was not taken lightly but the legislation would interfere with UK equalities law and threaten women’s rights.
