Scottish Government ditches highly protected marine areas plan

They received strong opposition from island communities and the fishing industry

The Scottish Government has confirmed that plans to designate 10% of Scotland’s seas as “highly protected” will not go ahead.

Results from the consultation into creating Highly Protected Marine Areas have been published, with more than 4,500.
