Scottish Government considering cutting national speed limit to 50mph

Ministers say they're trying to make Scotland's roads the 'safest in the world'.

The Scottish Government is considering reducing the national speed limit on country roads by 10mph.

The transport secretary announced a public consultation this morning.

The proposals would see the current limit of 60mph on single-carriageway roads dropped to 50mph.

However, the current 40mph limit for HGVs would be changed to 50mph, which is in line with England and Wales.
