The Scottish Government is being accused of systematically failing to tackle Scotland’s ‘national shame’ as new figures show a 10% increase in suspected drugs deaths.
In 2023, 1,197 people died as a result of suspected drug use – that’s up by 105 on the previous year and reverses a recent decline in deaths.
Campaigners have described these latest figures as harrowing and a further stark reminder that Scotland’s drugs deaths crisis is far from over.
