ScotRail back under public ownership for first time in 25 years

The previous operator Abellio had its contract ended early after criticism of its performance levels.

ScotRail is back under public ownership for the first time in 25 years. The service will be run by a new company owned by the Scottish Government. The previous operator Abellio had its contract ended early after criticism of its performance levels.

Ministers say the new setup will increase accountability and deliver an improved service. Although, to begin with, timetables will remain the same.
