Scotland’s only open prison ‘underutilised’ says report

38 recommendations for improvements were made by the Prison Inspectorate

Scotland’s only Open prison has been described as ‘significantly underutilised’ with a population half of its design capacity.

With numbers so low, the Inspectorate of Prisons found Castle Huntly, near Dundee, was unable to offer as many community placements, as prisoners are required to stay for the effective running of the facilities.
