Scotland’s community bus services at risk of closure

Cost of living crisis bites as volunteers call for more government funding

Rising fuel costs and a lack of volunteers are putting lifeline bus services for some of Scotland’s most vulnerable people at risk of closure.

The Community Transport Agency say almost a third of their members have had to cut services, with nearly two thirds having to increase prices to those who can least afford them.

The organisation is also asking the UK Government to increase the amount of money paid to volunteers who use their own cars as part of their work. It’s currently 45 pence per mile, a figure they argue hasn’t kept pace with prices at the pump.
