The owners of Peterhead’s Prison Museum, known as Scotland’s Alcatraz, are closing the site this weekend, citing rising costs with three jobs to go.
It was built in 1888 and was known as Scotland’s Alcatraz, housing notorious criminals. It became the site of infamous riots and protests from prisoners before being decommissioned in 2013.
Later reopening as a museum, the attraction has struggled to stay afloat and is closing its doors on Sunday.
Cove Attractions remains optimistic that it can reopen in the next three months.
