Apprenticeships are a crucial pipeline for getting people into many jobs, and the trades especially rely heavily on these schemes.
But the Plumbing and Heating Federation says small businesses simply cannot afford to take on apprentices anymore.
It says Scotland is facing a significant decline in recruitment, which could risk a serious skills gap in the coming years.
