Royal Navy welcomes new minesweeper RFA Stirling Castle

The ship will be based at Faslane and is due to begin operations later this year

A Royal Navy Ship that is set to revolutionise the way the military will deal with underwater threats from sea mines was welcomed in Leith today by the Duke of Edinburgh.

RFA Stirling Castle is the new ‘mothership’ for leading-edge mine warfare technology – the 6,000 tonne vessel will be based at Faslane in Helensburgh.
