Residents in North Ayrshire who had to flee their homes when a battery recycling plant caught fire last night have told STV News it “sounded like a terror attack”.
Loud banging noises were reported from as far as the neighbouring towns of Irvine and Stevenston, when the material inside the facility in Kilwinning exploded.
