Rents rise across country as around half of Scots struggle with housing costs

In some areas rent can be more than £1,000 a month.

Most of us take having a roof over our heads for granted but tonight there’s more evidence paying for it is getting harder. The charity Shelter Scotland has found around half of us struggle with our housing costs. In some areas rent can be more than £1,000 a month.

The solutions aren’t as clear cut as they might seem. Some say controls on rents would help, but that could also see landlords sell up. More social housing is also seen as a solution but campaigners say not enough are being built.
