Rape survivor welcomes university criminal disclosure review

Applicants need not disclose a history of sexual violence when applying for higher education

You might think people with criminal convictions would have to disclose them if they apply for university – but the requirement was dropped several years ago.

Now the admissions body UCAS is considering legal advice about how it can overcome concerns about data protection so that information can be recorded.

The review is being welcomed by a woman who was raped during her time at Glasgow University – but she’s told us urgent action is needed to improve safety.
