Pupils skipping class to vape, study finds

New research has shown the use of vapes is affecting school attendance.

Pupils across Scotland are missing school and skipping classes to vape in school toilets, according to a new study by the University of Stirling and the Scottish Centre for Social Research.

Staff said some young people are showing signs of nicotine addiction, with teens reporting leaving lessons and missing classes to vape or use nicotine pouches.

Scottish Government guidance recognises a small number of older pupils may be able to legally purchase these items but they remain inappropriate within schools.
