Prison service could be prosecuted after inmate death

Allan Marshall died at HMP Edinburgh in March 2015

Eight years after an inmate died after being restrained face down while on remand at Saughton, the prison service could be prosecuted.

The Lord Advocate has asked the police to investigate whether there is corporate responsibility for the death of Allan Marshall from Lanarkshire.

His family say it’s a welcome development and hope it could help to prevent future deaths in custody.
