Almost as soon as they re-open from the summer break, schools across ten council areas could close after council workers voted for strike action in an “escalating” dispute over pay.
Janitors, cleaners, caterers, classroom assistants and administrative staff could all walk out, after both the Unite and GMB Unions rejected COSLA’s latest offer.
The current 5.5% offer was rejected by 84% in a consultative ballot held in May and unions say that proposal has seen “no movement” since then – they’re now calling on the First Minister to step in after talks ended.
