The Time Capsule ice rink, the only one accessible to residents in North and South Lanarkshire, is at risk of closure.
The rink is home to youth ice hockey teams and figure skating teams that have competed at the international level, and its closure could force them to travel as far as Dundee for training, which parents say is unrealistic.
Any decision on the rink’s future has been delayed to June, after a protest and more than 13,000 signatures on a petition against the plans to close it.
Under proposals currently being considered by North Lanarkshire council, the rink would be replaced with a soft play area and padel courts.
