Police head insists all rape case perpetrators recorded as male

Farrell said offences of all types will now be logged with biological sex rather than self-identification.

The chief constable of Police Scotland has insisted that no cases of rape carried out by men who identified as women have been recorded as female crimes.

But Jo Farrell admitted the force had given out “mixed messages” on its policy of recording the gender of offenders.

Appearing before a Holyrood committee, she said offences of all types will now be logged with biological sex rather than self-identification.
