Police ‘closer than ever’ to solving Aberdeen ‘Cheese Wire’ murder

Police say they have 200 possible genetic matches to pursue in the hunt for George Murdoch's killer.

Police investigating the murder of an Aberdeen taxi driver 41 years ago say they are closer than ever to solving the case.

George Murdoch was brutally murdered in the city with a cheese wire in September 1983.

Last year, officers revealed that advancements in forensic science had led to a DNA profile from the scene being identified – and now familial DNA could help police capture the killer.
