Plans for National Care Service criticised over lack of cost detail

The plans would take control away from councils and put new care boards in charge

It’s been described as “the most significant reform to public services since the creation of the NHS” – but plans to set up a new, National Care Service have been heavily criticised by MSPs for a lack of detail on how much it would all cost.

Holyrood’s finance committee said more clarity was needed to assess how affordable and sustainable the service would be, but those who use social care say it needs to be seen as an investment.
