Plans for £470m protection cover for Rest and Be Thankful

Locals are cautiously optimistic that the plan may herald the beginning end of years of disruption

When it comes to delays and disruptions the Rest and Be Thankful is one of Scotland’s most notorious roads.

But proposals for a new long-term solution to protect the landslip-prone stretch of the A83 have been unveiled.

The plans include building a £470 million pound tunnel-like shelter to cover the road and protect it from mudslides, avalanches and rockfalls.
